The biodynamic method of organic farming was first conceived by Rudolf Steiner in Germany in 1924. This agricultural method biologically activates the life of soil and plants and emphasizes the holistic interrelatedness of the soil, plants and animals. The focus is on organic manures and composts and the exclusion of artificial chemicals. Methods unique to the biodynamic farming method include the use of fermented herbal and mineral preparations as compost additives and field sprays and the use of an astronomical sowing and planting calendar.
